EMPLOYER INVOLVEMENT

Students with a CDOS Commencement Credential have acquired the readiness skills for entry-level employment.  

Businesses can assist their local school district and BOCES by:

  • Hosting job shadowing

  • Speaking to student groups about work place expectations

  • Providing opportunities for Work Based Learning and Internships

  • Interviewing students (for practice or for job openings)

  • Sponsoring a School Based Business Enterprise

PARENT SUPPORT PROGRAM

Offered through North Star Behavioral Health Services, the Parent Support Network offers short-term, intensive, in-home intervention services for both children and their families.

This organization provided one-on-one consultation, group training and workshops, individualized research and information to parents/guardians of children and youth with a disability, ages 3 - 21.

ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY RESOURCE AND EDUCATION CENTER

Arranges AT solutions from low-tech (simple) to high tech (complex) to meet the needs of the individual.  Supports not only individuals, but also clinicians, special educators, and families.  Collaborates with TRAID to maintain an inventory of AT devices that are available for demonstration and short-term loan.

This national organization offers support services through offices in Canton, Malone and Watertown for individuals and their families.

ACCESS - VR  provides resources to people with disabilities in the following areas:

LEARNING DISABILITIES ASSOCIATION OF THE MOHAWK VALLEY

This chapter of the national LDA has an office in Watertown.  They provide a variety of programs to help individuals with learning disabilities to live independently and make their own choices.  Free tutorial services are available for students in grades 1 - 12.

MAXIMIZING INDEPENDENT LIVING CHOICES

MILC is a resource and advocacy center for people with disabilities with offices in Massena and Malone.  MILC believes that individuals have the right to exercise the greatest degree of choice in their life.  Services offered include:

CHILDREN'S RESPITE PROGRAM

The Children's Respite Program has offices in Malone and Saranac Lake.  This agency offers Children and Adult Services to assist emotionally troubled children and their families by providing temporary supervised care during crisis or stressors that are overwhelming for the family.

A Health Home is a service that links you to your community and social supports.  It enhances coordination of medical, social, and behavioral health care with a focus on your goals and what you need.  Home Health Care offers a choice of services between Adirondack Health Institute, Children's Health Home of Upstate NY, and Encompass Health Home.

HOMELESS SHELTER APARTMENT HOUSING

The Homeless Shelter apartment Housing is a joint effort on the part of Citizen Advocates, Franklin County Department of Social Services, and the Franklin County Community Housing Council.  The shelter is provided to offer temporary housing to individuals, couples, or families who are homeless or in crisis and need respite.

SPOA recognizes that families are best served via one person/office to ensure that cross-system collaboration occurs at the onset of care.  SPOA can be used for accessing the following services:

  • Wrap-Around/CCSI Tier I

  • Health Home Care Coordination (HHCC)

  • Home and Community Based Services Waiver (HCBSW)

  • Adirondack Youth Lodge - Community Residence

  • Residential Treatment Facility (RTF)

Front Door and Self-Directed Services are available through the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). 

Front Door will aid you with the following:

  • Learning about the supports and services OPWDD offers

  • Finding out how to apply for OPWDD services

  • Finding out if you are eligible for OPWDD services

  • Identifying the supports and services you need, and

  • Planning for getting the supports and services you need.

Self-Direction means that you can choose to select and supervise your own staff and/or manage your own services.​
